Quick tips for saving energy

Energy-efficient lighting

There are two main types of energy efficient light bulbs available in the UK – Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). LEDs are available to fit most fittings and are more efficient than CFLs, saving you more money in the long term. By replacing all halogen downlighters in your home with LED alternatives, you could save about £40 per year on your electricity bills.

Draught-proof your home

Draught-proofing around windows and doors could save you £10 to £50 per year. Draught-free homes are much cosier at lower temperatures, so you’ll be able to turn down your thermostat and save some money. To draught-proof your home you should block up unwanted gaps that let cold air in and warm air out. Saving warm air means you’ll use less energy to heat your home, so you’ll save money as well as making your home snug and pleasant.

Saving Water

No-one likes to waste water. However, many of us don’t realise that water usage contributes to energy bills, or that simple water use changes can save you money. In a typical UK household, more than half the money spent on fuel bills goes towards providing heating and hot water. As fuel costs rise, having an efficient and cost effective heating system is absolutely vital. Upgrading to an A-Rated boiler could save you up to £410 per year – for information or a quote for replacing your boiler, get in touch with St Helens Glass today!
